Dear Parents of 7th Graders,

Can you believe your child is a 7th grader!? As you know we are always looking forward to new and exciting learning experiences for our students. While at Adventure Treks we will focus on community building and character development in an outdoor education experience.

Adventure Treks is in the Pisgah National Forest in North Carolina. We hope you take some time to visit Adventure Treks this summer at www.adventuretreks.com. Adventure Treks primarily guides summer adventures; however, they have about twelve schools that they work with in the fall, and we are one of those lucky schools! Below you will find some specifics regarding our trip.

We will be going to Pisgah National Forest from Monday, September 13th - 16th, 2010. We will be leaving at 7:00 am on the morning of the 13th and returning at 6 pm the evening of the 16th. In order for you child to enjoy this awesome experience we will need to have all waivers signed and returned with a check of $400 to the Middle School office by September 1st. If for some reason you do not receive these or misplace them, you can pick up extra waivers in the Middle School office or better yet, download them off the BGA Middle School website. We will be having an informative Parent Meeting at 7:00pm on Tuesday, August 24th in the MS Commons Room. The meeting will answer many of your questions and concerns, as well as give you hints on helping your child pack and prepare for this amazing experience!

Our primary goals in integrating these types of trips into our middle school agenda is to encourage new friendships and relationships among the faculty and the kids, to encourage unique situations that develop character within each individual, and to encourage an outdoor education that can be just as valuable as an in-classroom education. We believe that these types of adventures in the first few months of the school year are extremely powerful in unifying a student body and building strong school community. There are so many educational opportunities that can be addressed outside the classroom. This type of adventure, exposing them to a wide variety of new experiences that build self-confidence, self-discipline, independence, leadership, and community living skills is invaluable.

Sincerely,
Wendi Parker-Dial
