If you made it past Rodin's "Gates of Hell," and can see past the tears filling your ocular cavities, then to you I say welcome! Welcome children, preteens, parents, enthusiastic students, and those of you who will someday perform low-paying, yet very important tasks in and for your respective communities. Our study of the mysterious world of literature will take us from racial struggles in the Dirty South, to firsthand accounts of the Holocaust, and finally to the magical realm of poetry. But don't fret, students! I will be sure to assign numerous tests, quizzes, and papers to ensure you receive the best education possible.
