Getting More Help

Morning Help Session Other Contact Info

Daily Help Sessions:

B.G.A. has designated school mornings from 7:45 to 8:05 for help sessions. During this time, I'm available to help with make-up work or to answer questions. If a student needs extra one-on-one help, I can be available certain mornings at 7:30 by prior appointment. I really like to see students come in and get any help they need!

If a student needs to make up a quiz or test at another time, he or she should grab me before or after class and ask for a study hall pass.

"He's there at 7:05 every morning, but..."

While some students come regularly for help, the ones who need it most often don't, even when they swear they will. The occasional parent, in desperation, will sentence a student to a week or two of daily help on days when he doesn't need it. The student will slouch in, mumble that he has no questions, and become a piece of human furniture. Parents, if you're looking for a way to see when your student actually comes in for help, let me offer this suggestion:

How to Monitor Help Session Attendance

  1. Instead of requiring attendance at help session, require a specific grade (or average over a week's time) from your student.
  2. Print this month's page from a calendar. Give it to your student.
  3. When he or she comes in for help, the student should bring the calendar and have me sign by the date.
  4. When you check Edline each week (or whenever you're curious!), ask your student to show you that signed calendar page as well.
  5. Since Edline shows the dates for quizzes and tests, you can compare this information when you're having those "what-went-wrong-here" (or "what-went-right-here!") conversations with your student.

This approach can give the student the responsibility for his work and accountability to you at the same time.

Contacting Me:

Parents, I want you to have any information you need to help your student; that's the main reason I created these webpages in the first place. During the school week, the fastest way to reach me is by email. Sometimes, if students are taking a test, I can actually respond during the same class day. The second fastest way is through my voicemail: (615) 567-8329. If you want me to call you back, please leave me a daytime phone number.
