The second quarter is a study of polynomials and rational expressions. The third quarter is a study of irrational and complex numbers, and a study of quadratic equations and functions. The fourth quarter is a study of Analytic Geometry, and a study of Exponential and Logarithmic Functions.
Class Goals:
The students will have a working knowledge of Algebra II that will enable them to move easily into the next subject area: Precalulus or College Algebra and Trigonometry.
The students will develop reasoning skills such as analyzing information, making conjectures and develop the skills to solve application problems.
Students will build their thinking and problem solving skills as well as their understanding of Algebra.
My hope is that students will become more confident of their mathematical abilities and will begin to enjoy using algebra skills.
Necessary Resources:Students will need a copy of the textbook: Algebra and Trigonometry (Structure and Method) Book II. They also will need loose-leaf paper, graph paper, pencils and a blue or black pen. Each student will be required to have a TI 83, TI 83 Plus , TI 84, or a TI 84 plus calculator. Grading Formula:Quarter Average=(Test Average +Homework Average) /2, Semester Average= ( 3*(average of two quarter grades) + exam) /4.
Semester exams count 25% of the final semester average. Quiz grades are averaged in like homework grades.
Grades will be posted daily. Academic Expectations:Two tests are given for each chapter, usually about every two or three weeks. Quizzes are given as needed and homework grades are given every day.
Homework will be given every day except after a major test. 30-60 minutes a day should be spent on homework. However, some time will be given in class. Behavioral Expectations:Students will do work as assigned with no late work being accepted except in the case of an illness. Students are expected to have all materials with them and will not be allowed to go back to their car or to the locker to get materials. Students will not talk while the lesson is being presented. No cell phones will be allowed in class.
Extra Help/Assistance:I am available before school daily for extra help. Break time and my planning times are also good times to seek my assistance. Note: When absent, please go to my website as given above to get your assignment. Assignments will be updated daily.
