In case you didn’t catch it, the Tennessee Vols basketball schedule was recently released for the upcoming 2008-09 season. Once again, as has been the trademark of Bruce Pearl coached teams at Tennessee, this year’s schedule looks to be one of the most difficult in the country.
In-state rivals will clearly be the focus early on. UT-Chattanooga opens the season at Thomson-Boling Arena on November 15th followed by UT-Martin just three days later. Then on November 21st, Pearl will lead his team to battle MTSU in Murfreesboro. It will be Tennessee’s first appearance in the Murphy Center since a crushing 1988 NIT loss by Don DeVoe and company.
The Old Spice Classic over Thanksgiving weekend will feature what could be the most talented crop of teams in any early season tournament — Tennessee, Georgetown, Gonzaga, Maryland, Michigan State, Oklahoma State, Siena and Wichita State.
On December 16th, Tennessee will play solid Marquette team in Nasvhille in the SEC/Big East Challenge and in January the Vols will head to Lawrence to take on the defending National Champions. As if that doesn’t sound difficult enough, Tennessee will finish out the month with Gonzaga, Kentucky, Memphis and Florida (just to name a few).
Without question, it should be another exciting basketball season.
