Ballet is the foundation of all good dancers, it gives strength, poise, turnout, an
understanding of spotting and basically it is easier to spot a dancer who has had
ballet training
against one who has not.
Ballet is great for perpetuating style, grace, good posture and strength. It is also great for
teaching self-discipline and pride in appearance. Ballet begins with barre work which
concentrates on developing good placing and on developing the technique needed for steps in
the center. Once in the center we perform arm exercises (port de bras) adage – slow
sustained movements like chasses, arabesques and attitudes, corner work – turns and
travelling steps and allegro – which is all the jumps associated with ballet.
