We use a mixture of the basal
reading book, novels, book clubs, and guided reading to build reading
fluency, comprehension, and many other skills.

Spelling

The third grade spelling
program is called Spellwell. The students will be using their
Spellwell books for their spelling lists and the work that is
related to the weekly words.
The
SPELLING TESTS will be given each
FRIDAY.

English/Writing
There are many new
concepts that are introduced this year in English and writing. We
will be using the adopted English text for some assignments, as well as
many fun writing assignments throughout the year.

Math
The Lower School is
in our first year of the newly adopted math program called "Math in
Focus." It is a hands-on program with many fun and challenging
lessons. We are all looking forward to seeing what this brings as
the year progresses.

Social Studies
Our Social Studies
curriculum is full of fun topics such as learning about the continents
and oceans, the 50 states, our Franklin community and history, and many
other subjects.

Science
The hands-on
Science program at BGA is fun for teachers and students alike! We
will spend most of our time on three major units; space, energy and
matter, and aquarium habitats.

Handwriting
Students in third
grade are required to write in cursive handwriting for all assignments.
There is a grade recorded for this throughout the year. The
handwriting program taught and used at BGA is Zaner-Bloser. You
